Integrated Agroforestry and Bio gas Project

Re-using agricultural and household waste for trees and Bio gas

Project Overview

Faced with deforestation and the acute need of fuel wood for cooking n the urban and especially in the rural areas, there is need for alternative sources of energy for cooking. Charcoal is still in high demand and is the root cause of deforestation in the rural area today. Today, many people in Buea still depend on the Mt Cameroon forest for fuel wood. Our project is focus on providing solutions by constructing bio gas structures to homes to enable them transform their kitchen waste, connect their toilets to the digester for cooking gas. We have constructed some structures in the NW region and a pilot unit in Buea. Due to the high cost of construction, many people are reluctant to pay for the services. What we have done so far has been sponsored by projects that request our services. We have constructed units that serve 3 homes at a time and this has proven to be very successful and can be applied in modern homes in the cities where lots of waste is generated daily.

Our tree project is mostly sponsored by us and we use it to generate income to support our activities like the dairy farm. We produce and sell high value trees with our main nursery in Bamenda at Mancho street. We graft fruit trees, marcot plums and mango, root apples and grow palms. You can contact our nursery for more information. We have also train some young people who wish to engage in growing trees and have provided technical support in the form of internship to students of the Regional College of Agriculture. Spent substrate from the mushroom farm is being used as potting soil for trees.
